At the scene
Turn on your hazards and move to a safe spot if the vehicles can be driven. Texas law expects drivers in a minor crash with no injuries to move out of the main lanes when it's safe to do so.
- Check everyone for injuries and call 911 if needed
- Exchange names, phone numbers, insurance and plate numbers
- Photograph both vehicles, plates, the road and any damage
- Note the location, time and any witnesses
Reporting the crash
Call police if anyone is injured or a vehicle can't be moved. Report the claim to your insurance company as soon as you can; most allow claims by app.
Getting it repaired
Get a written estimate. Hidden damage behind a bumper cover is common, so the final repair may grow after the shop takes it apart; that's called a supplement and your insurer reviews it.
Why repair quality matters
Modern Fords have sensors and cameras in bumpers and mirrors. After body work, those systems may need recalibration to work correctly, so ask whether your estimate includes it.
Take photos before the tow truck arrives. Pictures taken at the scene are the most useful evidence your insurer will see.
